Journalism Ethic Codes post 2/28/14

Resource: This is just a quick reading I skimmed over to get a better idea of why journalist have certain ethic codes and what it exactly means. click here.

"This page contains a collection of ethics guidelines from various news organizations worldwide. These include specific news outlets, parent news companies, and trade associations working in different media. To suggest additional codes of ethics..." -Journalism.org

Resource: Principles of Journalism site: Here

After reading this article explaining the principles of journalism, I now understand that you cannot slapdash your way through the truth. What I mean by this when I say it is that when you are a journalist, you are writing for the truth and nothing but the truth on factual life events and other things that carry evidence in regards to your findings. As a journalist, some may think you are capable of writing ANYTHING you want however to a certain extent this isn't always the case.

My Team post 2/26/14

Today everyone was able to go around to different groups and see what one another was working on and what their ideal goals were, etc. Based on my own findings, I was able to come up with the conclusion that many of my peers all have a variety of fields they would like to study. In particular, those that I gravitated towards the most happened to be those that were studying the subjects of journalism, helping other people and art/music based careers. It was nice to talk to some students that were into engineering and architecture however these aren't fields of study that I could really relate to interest wise.
I would say that if I was able to continue on collaborating with the other students that were in my range of interest, then we would be able to come up and or help each other out and come up with something pretty magnificent. The one person that I feel would make a great network team member would be Sierra Ramirez because her interest happens to be with taking care of people, helping and just that kind of work. I can relate to this because my intended career NOW is journalism so for every student including Sierra, I would possibly be able to collaborate with them in the sense that I would be able to possibly do a review for them and or write for them if they needed it for this is my strong point.

Career Path Update 2/25/14

Instead of Human computer interactions, I decided to change my field of study to just general writing. Possibly journalism because I enjoy writing about things that are for others in the sense that I would possibly be writing for their company, a magazine and so forth...

Masterpiece Essay #1 2/23/14

Human Computer Interaction (H.C.I) Masterpiece Essay

Based on all the sources that I have come across in regards to Human computer Interaction, it's

obvious now that human computer interaction is literally the study of people interacting with

technological devices and systems that make up our world today. Human computer interaction is a great

field of study I believe because the range of jobs is very broad in the sense that if you are the type of

person that likes working with computers then there is a job for that, if you are the type of person that

likes network administration careers then there is a job for that within this field of study.

Human computer interaction is unique because lets face it, our world today relies so heavily on

technology such as cell phones, medical based equipment, iPhones, etc. so many of these things that we

use almost every day of our lives that help us find out certain information along with entertain us.

When putting all of the acquired information together, I was able to come up with the conclusion that

human computer interaction is going to be a thriving industry in the future for this world is

transforming completely into computers for pretty much everything!

With this said, the reason why I chose to go with this line of study was due to the fact that I myself

see that this world is slowly but surely going to sink deeper and deeper into technology and what it has

to offer society. I also know that I like to help people in general so by being able to work some line of

study within the broad range of human computer interaction, I can kill two birds with one stone in the

sense that I am working with technology along with helping people that may not understand certain

things about technology like I do.

As fashion and other things in this world start to change, so does the taste of technology for the

common person within our growing world today. Another great thing about human computer

interaction is that you can actually be the one to build what the different technology based products

look like. This is cool because if you tend to be the kind of artsy person, then you are able to achieve

this while also designing new features that can be quite a booming industry.

In order to build the foundation for this line of study, I have to be familiar with certain vocabulary

terms that get used a lot when it comes to this line of business. Certain terms include: user interface, jail

breaking,  computer networking and so forth… Being able to have great communication skills is a plus

as well because typically someone in this field will have to communicate with customers and other

people based on what it is exactly they are doing when it comes to the broad range of human computer

interaction jobs and what not.

When I was in the process of trying to figure out what it was exactly that  I wanted to do outside of

high school, I never thought that human computer interactions was something that I would be some

what interested about because I have never been the type of person that's obsessed with computers and

other technology such as that. I believe the thing that interests me the most when it comes to this career

is that you are able to help people better understand their evolving world along with making a

 difference in their lives.

Lit. Analysis #2 - The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer Vol.01 2/20/14

                                                        The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer
                                                                              By: Michelle Hodkin

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer tells the story of a young teenage girl trying to piece together little pieces of memory that she has from the night she lost 3 of her very close friends due to a tragic accident in an old abandoned, broken down building that happened to collapse. Mara suddenly wakes up in the hospital feeling very confused because most of the memory she has in regards to the accident that happened that night is wiped clean. After recovering from the fatal injuries, Mara is released back into her everyday life; the only difference is the night that her friends died still haunts her because she sees them everywhere she goes.

Theme wise, I would have to say that Michelle Hodkin's is the type of author that definitely knows how to work mystery, suspense, romance and plot twists. The tone throughout this book can be described as almost a mystery/horror kind of one because there are many descriptions within this story that connects certain past events to current ones. This story accomplished trapping a reader's attention because many of the descriptions had to do with Mara seeing her dead friends alive again everywhere she went. They didn't look dead and or decaying at all! Instead they waved at her, watched her and acted as a constant reminder that what happened that night could never be taken back. Some passages from the book that serve as evidence on how well this author writes include: “I'll walk forever with stories inside me that the people I love the most can never hear.”  and “They rattled my cage to see if I'd bite. When they released me, they'd see that the answer was yes.”

The first literary element that could be spotted would be conflict. I choose conflict because it's a character ( Mara in this case) that isn't fighting with any outside forces but instead the forces that hold her back from being the healed person she longs to be. “I don’t have a favorite color, though I strongly dislike yellow. Horrid color.” "I resolved to wear something yellow the next time I saw him. Yellow from head to toe, if I could manage it.” In a way, this shows that Mara is the kind of character that doubts herself repeatedly because ever since the accident she could never feel to sure of herself from that night on. The second literary element would be style which would fall under romanticism. This is so because Mara falls in love with mysterious boy named Noah she met at her school. Noah seems like he's the answer to all her unsolvable problems for he holds all the qualities that Mara doesn't have. “You like me,” he finally said. “You like me, like me.” He was trying not to smile. “No. I hate you,” I said, hoping that saying it would make it so. “And yet, you draw me.” Noah was still smug, completely undeterred by my declaration. This was torture; worse somehow than what just happened, even though it was only the two of us. Or because it was only the two of us. “Why?” he asked. “Why what?” What could I say? Noah, despite you being an asshole, or maybe because of it, I’d like to rip off your clothes and have your babies. Don’t tell.”  Third element would be setting; “I don't have feelings.”  This just basically shows setting because Mara thinks she can't feel as a person ever since she lost her close friends. Just by this passage, it's easy to see that throughout this book aside from the bizarre incidents that unfold such as the hallucinations Mara goes through; she ultimately is trying to find her sanity and peace of mind in the world once again but this time without the aid of anyone but herself.

Direct characterization is seen in this story by how well the author does at describing Noah's overall physical and mental traits he carries. “Don’t tempt me. Now, what are you wearing?”
“A hoodie and drawstring pants too, I guess.”“Anything underneath?” “I don’t typically walk around without underwear.” “Typically?” “Only on special occasions.” “Christ. I meant under your hoodie” Physically, Noah was the type of guy to dress very casually and laid back just like how he is personality wise.

Example wise, Indirect characterization can be seen in this passage: “Noah´s bed. In Noah´s room.
Without any clothes on. Holy shit.”  You can see here that it's obvious Mara has a crush on Noah therefore she thinks these wild thoughts to herself however she is always to shy to share them with Noah. Instead she watches him, observes and later talks about how cute he is or how she wants to be with him so badly. Eventually Mara ends up dating Noah which adds a little spark to the novel.

After using these writing techniques, it makes it more clear to the reader that both Mara and Noah carry their own sense of style, physical traits and mental ways of thinking. Ideally, Mara is portrayed as this grungy, dark past, shy, lost yet beautiful girl that Noah has been looking for for a very long time. Noah on the other hand is portrayed as this charming, easy going, outspoken, bad boy that Mara can't resist. By using the direct and indirect characterization, both elements work with each other and sometimes off of one another to give the overall effect of how the author wants the reader to imagine each character. With all of this said, this also ties into the lasting impression that the reader gets of each character.

When it comes down to an antagonist and protagonist, I would say that Mara fits both elements in the sense that it's her fighting her own demons and enemies of her dark past. She starts off as a static character which then evolves into a dynamic character because there are realizations that she comes across about herself throughout the chapters in this book. Overall wise though, I would have to say that Mara is the type of character that's round.

Looking back, after I read this book I felt that I had met 2 important people rather than just reading about them because the elements that make up the dynamics in this book seemed very realistic and vivid in the readers' mind. I was amazed by how well the author wrote each and every detail that made up this whole story! A final example of this would include: “I wish we could make out in your bed."
Noah sighed. "As do I, but I'm afraid we have ritual burning to conduct." "It's always something."
"Isn't it though?” This passages fits perfectly because it demonstrates the deep trust and understanding that Noah had for his "girlfriend" Mara Dyer.

Peer Review Post Assignment 2/19/14

This is a post dedicated to viewing/evaluating 5 peers from Preston's 0 period class on how well their blogs are put together, up to date and so forth...

1. Daniel Alvarez - this student had a very clean, organized and up to date blog.

2. Valentina Alvarado - this student had a blog that had a nice contrast of colors that wasn't extremely overwhelming. She was very organized and her blog looked very neat layout wise.

3. Jacob Caldwell - this student's blog had some personality in it which could be seen through current posts and its overall look.

4. Carlos Serrano - first impression wise, I was impressed by this students blog because every assignment was up to date and it had a nice contrast of red that kept the viewer engaged...personally I believe.

5. Robert Rucobo - Although this student's blog looked bland, it was nice because assignments and what not were very easy to find; there were not any "bells and whistles" to this students blog which made finding information fast and efficient.

*** I Think it's fair to say that all 5 students did an excellent job on keeping their blogs up to date along with keeping a great viewers' appeal in the sense that there blogs weren't terribly messy and unorganized. All blogs had easy navigation thus making everything easy to find.

Welcome To The Disciplinarity post 2/10/14

The discipline that will be needed in order to continue through with becoming a successful worker for Human Computer Interactions is that I will need to sustain a clear focused vision on what exactly I want to get out of this line of study. This means I have to "stick with my guns" in the sense that I can't afford to continue to have all of these side tracks and what not, I need to focus on my major and everything else that comes with that major naturally. The first step is to continue researching and finding other useful vocabulary words that I will need to know that has to do with the human computer interaction world and so forth...

Launch 2/10/14

Throughout the final project in regards to choosing a career that I want to stick with when I get out of high school, I had a very hard time deciding what I wanted to do for there are many options I would like to explore as I have stated in some of my previous posts. I like working with people and I like technology so why not combine the 2? Human computer interaction is what I came across in my research process.

What is Human computer interaction?

Human–computer interaction involves the study, planning, design and uses of the interaction between people and computers. It is often regarded as the intersection of computer science, behavioral sciences, design and several other fields of study.

To answer all 6 questions that were part of this prompt, number 1 would be that the study I would like to throw myself into from now until June would be Human computer interaction because with technology all around us these days and people obviously it's interesting putting the 2 together and seeing how their are reactions from both parties. Someone within this line of study that would be beneficial to talk to and or learn from would most likely be a handful of experts that I have come across but the main person that stands out to me would be Jakob Nielsen Ph.D and the founder of the Nielsen Norman Group involving computer interaction between man and technology through a range of user friendly interfaces. This man definitely knows what he's talking about because he is able to understand what people need and incorporate his methods into the usable technology this man creates then puts out onto the market for purchase, etc.

When talking to my peers, I was able to see that many of them were confused on the whole subject of human computer interaction. Some students literally took it as people getting involved with "human computers" much like a robot however this field of study is far from that I believe.

This article talks about Usability engineering and after reading this it became more clear that some people have a hard time with technology and the changing world today. To be able to acquire assistance in certain interfaces and or technology in general is a world of help because it not just helps a customer but it also helps those working in the field of human computer interaction to see what majority of the common person is getting held up on and how it can be avoided, fixed, and so on…

Every time I read a different article, there wasn't much that I got out of it other than finding out more about human computer interaction and how it can become a booming industry in the future to come. I also found out that it isn't many of the young people having a problem with technology as much as it is the older generation therefore they are the ones being targeted mostly so they can be helped in their changing worlds as well.

Human computer interaction isn't something that's just needed in the US, this is a line of industry that can be helpful around the world such as 3rd world countries because they to need to be up to date with everything that's happening in the world to the best of their abilities. That's where the students that are training under this field of study come in handy because some students are able to fly out to whatever country that's in need of help when it comes to technology and there you have it… So basically this job isn't just behind a desk like the rest of traditional jobs, you literally are able to help anyone, wherever, whenever as you please based on how well you understand technology and the way many people go about using it these days.

I Don't Know What I want To Do Launch Post post 2/4/14

So to be completely 100 % I'm not entirely sure what I want to do for the future because there are many things that I am passionate about however when it comes down to a single field of study, this is where I get stuck. I know that I am the type of person that wants to help others for a start and I also know myself enough to say that I want to enjoy my future career whatever that may be because I just want to enjoy work in general...If it's something I'm not passionate about then I can assure you I will definitely dread having to get up every morning to go to some job I was never passionate about in the first place.

I know that there are many tools that can help aid in discovering what possibilities are out there for me such as networking groups and personal tools like calendars and what not however I feel that I am past all of these "tools" because I never used them the last semester so why would I use them now? Because it's getting closer to graduation and I should start caring more? Because it might be different this time? I may just have some luck when it comes down to finding what I'm passionate about? I have asked myself these questions over and over again but it's the same outcome; I'm getting nowhere as of right now.
